Château Gloria was created in 1942 by the passionate Henri Martin. Born into the world of wine, he soon became a cooper, like his father. He went on to become a highly influential figure, presiding over the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bordeaux. At the same time, he was determined to create a renowned estate. At the time mayor of Saint-Julien, he bought a 6-hectare plot from Château Beychevelle. Using only parcels of Grands Crus Classés, he then patiently and passionately devoted several decades to building up his vineyard to almost 50 hectares. This key figure in the Médoc has succeeded in raising Château Gloria to the level of the commune's excellent crus, even though it never obtained the revision of the 1855 classification that would have allowed it to be included (which makes it excellent value for money).
