Macallan A Night on Earth The Journey*

Speyside, Scotland Producer The Macallan Website www.themacallan.com The Rolls-Royce of single malts A whisky with a reputation for being one of the world's finest single malts. Founded in 1824, Macallan was one of the first legal distilleries in Scotland. Situated on the banks of the River Spey, the country estate with the mysterious name "Easter Elchie House" sits gracefully on a hill near Craigellachie. Here, where the Spey takes its swift course in the shadow of the Grampian Mountains, the location and climate create unique conditions for whisky production. The distillery was first licensed by Alexander Reid in 1824. The Macallan works with companies in Spain who have extensive expertise in the entire cask making process - "from selecting the tree to finishing the seasoned casks" - carefully selecting and felling the oak trees in the forests of northern Spain, cutting and drying the oak staves before transporting them south for air-drying to further reduce moisture. The barrels are then filled with sherry for 18 months before being transported to Scotland. There they are finally filled with the "New Make Spirit", the fresh distillate from The Macallan. Velvety sweetness A Night on Earth - The Journey is the second edition of a limited gift series of single malt Scotch whisky and is designed to reflect the ubiquitous joy of celebrating the New Year. The Journey is a perfectly balanced first-fill combination of exceptional American ex-bourbon casks and European and American sherry oak casks. The inspiration for the whisky creation comes from the renowned artist Nimi Sum and her journey home to celebrate the New Year. The innovative packaging was designed in collaboration with her.
