Founded in 1824, Macallan was one of the first legal distilleries in Scotland. Situated on the banks of the River Spey, the country estate with the mysterious name "Easter Elchie House" sits gracefully on a hill near Craigellachie. Here, where the Spey takes its swift course in the shadow of the Grampian Mountains, the location and climate create unique conditions for whisky production. The distillery was first licensed in 1824 by Alexander Reid. The distillery initially ran as a sideline on the farm until it was taken over by Roderick Kemp in 1882, whose family brought the business to prosperity over the next 100 years. The Macallan Old Double Cask embodies the perfect balance between exquisite sherry casks made from American and European oak - a marriage of two different types of wood.
