Plantation Original Dark Jamaica Barbados Rum *

Plantations Original Dark Rum is a blend of Jamaica and Barbados molasses rums, which is ideal for cocktails thanks to its intense structure. The Jamaica rum used is a high ester John Dore pot still rum, which is fermented for 2 weeks. Its barrel age is between 10 and 15 years. The Barbados rum ferments for 72 hours and is then distilled in twin column stills and pot stills. What is always worth noting about Plantation is that they have recently started to state the level of subsequent sweetening - the dosage - very transparently. For Plantation Original Dark Rum, this is 15g/liter, which is on the lower end. Even the addition of caramel as a colorant (E150a) is stated quite precisely. Depending on the deviation of a subsequent batch, this is 0-0.1% vol. According to Ferrand, the colorant is used solely to compensate for any color variation. The vatting, i.e. the marriage of the two rums, takes place in France in the cellars of Maison Ferrand, where the barrels are allowed to rest for a further 3 to 6 months before they are finally bottled. Nose: hints of black pepper, cloves, cinnamon, cooked cherries and plums, followed by slightly herbal notes such as black tea and leaves. Palate: initially fruity with raisins and grilled pineapple, then spicy, almost mineral and noticeably drier. Finish: rather short and very spicy.
