Beautiful dark ruby colour. The first nose is typical of the expression of Merlot on clay and iron dross: a combination of red and black fruits and a note of violets stand out. On aeration, the bouquet develops itself with a slight empyreumatic character but still with a fresh fruity dominance characteristic of the vintage. The tannins are as usual fresh, fine and balanced, without excessive reactivity with a juicy finish: the fruit is deliciously present but the finish begins to reveal more complex aromas drawing on liquorice and cinnamon. Very accessible and made for ageing, this vintage of HAUT-CHAIGNEAU is another success for the Lalande de Pomerol appellation.
